In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet this week's featured Pet Pal, Coco! UPDATE: Coco has been adopted!

This big, gorgeous girl is on the hunt for a home where she’s loved and part of the family. She is six years old, an Anatolian Shepherd, and weighs 101 pounds of gentleness. She loves to give hugs and snuggle up with her people. She can be a little nervous with new people, but if you give her about five minutes and some treats, she'll be your BFF! She’s not really sure how to act around humans who are smaller than she is. She’d like everyone in my new home to be at least 5, and it would be great to meet kids 5-10 before she goes home too. She has met some dogs at the shelter and had lots of fun playing with them! Feel free to bring yours to meet her. There is no appointment necessary to come and meet Coco, just swing by the shelter any day between the hours of noon and 6 p.m.
Meet Orbit!

Meet Orbit! Get ready to blast off into a whole new galaxy of fun with Orbit! This is a two-year-old Terrier, American Pit Bull mix who weighs 60 pounds and is covered in chocolate-brown fur. He is playful and lots of fun to be around. As his name suggests, he is a very energetic little guy, but he can also be a good listener with big brown sympathetic eyes. Orbit was brought into the SPCA of Texas as a stray from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office just over two months ago. He would love to find a home with a securely fenced (at least six feet high) backyard to romp around in. Orbit is not too fond of other dogs. He would love to be the center of attention and the only dog in the home. He is waiting at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas.
Meet Galadriel! UPDATE: Galadriel has been adopted!

She is a Labrador Retriever mix waiting for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. She is a pretty girl with white fur, big eyes, and an even bigger smile. She is a “Mini Lab” as she is full-grown and only weighs 50 pounds. She just recently celebrated her first birthday. As Labs go, she is kind of a chill character and likes to take it easy. Already have a dog? Galadriel is a very social lady and gets along famously with other dogs. She has come a long way from the day she arrived at the SPCA of Texas from an animal cruelty seizure and was scared to even leave her crate. Now she is all smiles and loves to go to the play yard. Galadriel is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet her.
Meet Minerva!

She is a Shepherd mix who weighs 55 pounds and has a regal, light brown coat of fur. Minerva is four years old, so she’s a well-seasoned pup. She is named for the Roman goddess of wisdom and justice, probably for her piercingly beautiful eyes that are wise and captivating. She loves treats, toys and snuggling up with a trusted friend. She was found as a stray wandering the streets of Ennis alone, so not too much is known about her earliest days. Minerva needed a little bit of medical TLC upon arrival and is still being treated for heartworms, so she is on exercise restrictions but is otherwise a healthy gal. She is currently in foster care, so making an appointment in advance is necessary to meet with her in person.
Meet Wario! UPDATE: Wario has been adopted!

This little kitty is a year and a half old and hoping to find a forever home soon! She is a Domestic Shorthair mix who weighs in a t 6 pounds and is covered by an alternating coat of black and white fur. Wario came to the SPCA of Texas from a hoarding case in Van Zandt County where she was removed from a home along with 22 other cats. Wario is still a bit shy when first encountering new people but warms up nicely given a bit of time. She would love to go to a home with a calm living environment where she can acclimate well to her new surroundings. All children in the home should be at least 10 years of age, and preferably there would already be a cat in the house who could show her the ropes and provide good companionship.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
