In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.

KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.

Meet Gambit! He is a male Siberian Husky mix with a very unique coat, which plays well with his two different colored eyes. Gambit is just under a year old now, weighing in at 43 pounds. The staff at the SPCA of Texas Ellis County Animal Care Center say Gambit is a snuggler who will cozy up with you all day. He is still a young pup though, and loves to go hypersonic in the play yard. Gambit came in as a stray from Ellis County and would rather not be out on his own anymore. Gambit brings no purebred clout with him, but he wanders in with a lively spirit and a lot of love to go with it.

Meet Cornucopia! She is a Labrador Retriever mix hoping to work her way into a human family with the help of the SPCA of Texas. Cornucopia came into the SPCA of Texas back in November as a stray from Ennis. She is just over a year old now, so she was quite wary of humans, and is still a little shy (though treats alleviate this rather quickly). She is a pretty dog with a black coat and glowing brown eyes. She is available as a foster-to-adopt as she is still under treatment for heartworms and is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so an appointment is necessary to meet her.

Meet Royal! He’s a little guy, one of the smallest in the shelter. He’s a year-and-a-half old and weighs 21 pounds, and is all black except for a ew white patches. He is part of a large Chihuahua seizure conducted by the SPCA of Texas Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit. He likes other dogs who behave well, but would rather live in a much smaller pack with attentive and loving humans. He is still a little on the shy side and it takes some time (and treats) for him to open up, but he’s come a long way already. Royal is currently housed at the Dallas Animal Care Center so no appointment is necessary to meet him.

Meet Violet and Victoria!

Meet Violet and Victoria! These two come as a package deal. They are a pair-bonded pair of sisters, so they are adamant that they want to stay together. They are Domestic Shorthair mixes with very beautiful coats of white, black, gray and a tiny sprinkling of brown in there too. They would love to go into a home where there is already a confident cat to show them the ropes. Both of these cats have been nervous around very small humans before, so they would prefer a home where everybody was over 15 years old. They are housed in the cat rotunda at the Dallas Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary.

KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster, and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.

Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
