In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet this week's featured Pet Pal, Rowan!

This is Rowan, a two-year-old mixed breed who is looking for a home to call his own. He loves playing with toys, meeting new friends, and of course, eating lots of treats! He would love for his new home to give him lots of love, attention, toys, and snacks! If he has to share with another doggy friend in the home, that's alright with him! He should do very well with a doggy playmate in his new home! You can always bring them with you so he can meet them here before he goes home! Please also bring any human kiddos in the home to meet him first before going home.
His head tilt is permanent, and when he came into the SPCA as a stray, staff noticed that he had this continuous model pose, so they did some tests on and sent them off to fancy places to see if it was a major medical issue. To everyone’s surprise though, everything is actually normal! His friends here will definitely talk to you about all of the cool tests they did on him and what they mean whenever you meet him, but he’s a normal, happy dog. Hopefully his next picture will be a family photo...hopefully with you?
Meet Lucy!

Meet Lucy! She is a Shepherd mix who is 10 years old and hoping for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. She weighs 60 pounds and is covered in a brown and white coat. Lucy is very dear to us at the SPCA of Texas because she was adopted out as a puppy back in 2013. She was returned 8 years later through no fault of her own, and now she is hoping to be lucky enough to get adopted a second time. She is an older lady and kind of shy, but she has a very sweet side for those who give her just a little patience. Lucy would prefer a home with older teens or adults, and a fenced backyard would be heaven.
Meet Benson!

Meet Benson! He is a very dapper and proper gentleman who is keen to find himself a home with a great family. Benson is a Terrier, American Pit Bull mix with a golden coat and a white underside. He has a very wise and mature face, but he’s really only 5 years old. He weighs in at 62 pounds, so he’s kind of a big guy. Benson tries to be very sophisticated, but tasty treats can get him to break character pretty quick. He likes to go for walks and does splendidly on a leash. He’s made a few doggie friends at the shelter, so he might make a good second pet. Come down to the Dallas Animal Care Center and meet him.
Meet Jones!

Meet Jones! He is a friendly pup with a great attitude and also a great longing to find his forever home. Jones is only a year and 7 months old, but he came into the SPCA of Texas from an animal cruelty case in January. He had a rough ride to get here, but he’s done well and is ready to go to a real home. He’s an especially good find for someone who wants a younger dog, but not a hyperactive pooch. Jones is a very calm, cool, and collected character (possible squirrel exception here). Jones is waiting at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet him.
Meet Ripley!

Meet Ripley! Believe it or not, he’s available for adoption at the SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center. Ripley is a Domestic Medium Hair mix who is a year and 4 months old, and weighs 9 pounds. He is covered in a thick, luxurious coat of black hair. Like many cats, Ripley can be a little on the shy side when first meeting someone new. Once he’s gotten comfy, his energetic and playful side comes out. Ripley is infected with FIV, which is a completely manageable condition for cats. However, he should be the only cat in the home or go to a home with another cat who is FIV-positive.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster, and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
