In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.

Meet this week's featured Pet Pal, Rufio!
Rufio is 2-year-old male Shepherd mix. He is more than your everyday tall, dark and handsome dude...he's also a bionic boy! The SPCA of Texas helped him with a special hip surgery so he can be the playful and outgoing fellow that he is. He loves to romp and play, especially if there are squeaky toys or tennis balls involved. He has so much love and so many kisses to give! He would do well in any home and likes other dogs. You can bring your current dog for a meet and greet when you visit him! To meet Rufio, come by the shelter at 2400 Lone Star Drive in Dallas any day between the hours of noon and 6 p.m.
Meet Betty Boop!

Meet Betty Boop! She is actually quite OK if you just want to call her “Betty.” She is a 3-year-old pup who is just a blender full of breeds. She’s a bigger girl at 54 pounds and she has a very fashionable black-over-tan coat. Betty is quite the find. When she first came in to the SPCA of Texas she was very shy and wary of people. She has since had the benefit of some foster parenting and has really come out of her shell. She is especially good with other dogs, so she might be a great second pet. She is waiting at the Dallas Animal Care Center so no appointment is necessary to meet her in person.
Meet Candy!

Meet Candy! She is a very sweet Retriever mix hoping to find a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. Candy has a black coat with a bit of white on her feet, snoot and underside. She weighs 43 pounds, so she slides slightly into the big doggie category. Candy came to the SPCA of Texas from a fairly sever hoarding case out of the Mabank area. She’s had a rough start in life and she is still a bit on the shy side when first being introduced to new people. She’s worth the wait, because once you get past her nervousness she is just as adorable as she can be. She is waiting at the Dallas Animal Care Center.
Meet Mandy!

Meet Mandy! She is a jolly little Pittie mix available for adoption at the SPCA of Texas. Mandy is a hoot once you get to know her. Like her friend Candy, she came to the SPCA of Texas from a hoarding case outside Mabank. Mandy is also a bit shy at first, but she warms up in very short order. Once she knows you are good people, she is off to the races with playfulness. She loves to get out in the play yard and get her zoomies out with a wide grin on her face. She behaves very respectfully when taking treats and walking. She is at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet her.
Meet Creamsicle!

Meet Creamsicle! Here is a guy who knows how to dress! Creamsicle is a 5-year-old Domestic Shorthair mix who is hoping to find some permanent digs soon. He is wrapped in a very lively and attractive coat of orange and white hair with an unusual spot pattern. He’s quite proud of it and will be happy to show it off. He came to the SPCA of Texas as a Dallas County stray, and has been thriving in foster care where his foster mom reports he is quite the snuggler. Since he is still in foster care, an appointment is required to meet him. Contact the foster team (foster@spca.org) for details.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster, and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
