In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet Sapphire!

Sapphire is a 1-year-old mixed breed lady with maybe a little pittie in there somewhere. She’s ready to find her forever home! She loves squeaky toys, playtime and sunbathing. She loves snuggles after she runs the puppy energy out of her little body and loves to RUN and have zoomies (which means to run in circles). She would like to meet any new best friend and she is social with dogs and love to play with them! She’s looking for a home with children over 7. Bring the whole family out to meet her when you come visit! If you are interested in meeting Sapphire, come on in. The SPCA of Texas is open noon-6pm every day. That’s at 2400 Lone Star Drive in Dallas.
Meet Stormy!

Meet Stormy! We’re not sure of all the breeds included with this mix, but the end result turned out to be Hollywood good looks on this little lady. Look at those eyes! Stormy is 5 years old and weighs 48 pounds. She has a sweet disposition and the staff says she is quite the curious and inquisitive dog. Stormy came to the SPCA of Texas as a stray and would very much prefer to leave the shelter with a new family that loves her. She is housed at the SPCA of Texas Ellis County Animal Care Center in Waxahachie. The shelter is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m.
Meet Topanga!

Meet Topanga! Don’t ask her where her name came from. She has no clue, and will be right agreeable with you changing it after adopting her. She is a Terrier/Pit Bull mix who is a little less than a year old and weighs 37 pounds. She has a very nice coat of short white fur with rich brown patches. The play yard is Topanga’s stomping grounds, and she gets along famously with the other dogs in the shelter. She seems to be good with kids too, so bring the whole family to the shelter to meet her. She is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center so a prior appointment is necessary to meet her.
Meet Peewee!

Meet Peewee! At 40 pounds he’s not quite as little as his name might suggest. Peewee is a 2-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever/Hound mix waiting for a forever home at the SPCA of Texas. He has a classic black coat with a little bit of white underneath and he has very intelligent puppy dog eyes. Peewee has benefitted from a round of foster care, so he is now house trained among other accomplishments. Peewee likes to get out and play, but he also likes to cuddle on the couch and play with toys. Peewee is currently residing at the Dallas Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to meet him.
Meet Georgie!

Meet Georgie! Fans of solid black cats can rejoice! The cutest black cat ever is available for adoption at the SPCA of Texas. Georgie is a Domestic Medium Hair mix with the softest black fur imaginable and big, wondering yellow cat eyes. She’s a beauty. She is 2 years old and is a petite 6 pounds. Like lots of cats, Georgie can be a little on the shy side when you first meet her, but she has a lot of love in store for the people-parent who is patient enough to give her a little space as she acclimates to a new environment. She is at the Dallas Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster, and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older.
