In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, Newsradio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlight the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet this week's featured Pet Pal, Smartie!
Smartie is a male, 2-year-old, Boxer/Terrier mix who weighs 54 pounds. This sweet and playful guy is looking for his forever home at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center located at 2400 Lone Star Drive in Dallas. He can be a bit shy at first, but with a little patience and a few treats, he is as sweet as candy! This handsome boy loves belly rubs, long walks and snuggles. He gets along well with other dogs and kids, too, so please bring the whole family when you come meet him. He is at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to meet him. Just come on by any day of the week between noon and 6 p.m. and he’ll be eager to meet his new humans!
Meet Rosalina!
Meet Rosalina! She is a beautiful female Pittie mix available for adoption at the SPCA of Texas. She is almost 8 years old and thinks it is high time that she settles down with a loving forever family. She weighs 46 pounds and is covered by a light tan coat of fur. Rosalina does well with other dogs and seems to like children as well. She is a bit of a snuggle bug, so extra hugs and pets go a long way with this girl. Bringing a few treats along will just be icing on the cake. Rosalina came to the SPCA of Texas in January after a bit of a rough start in life. Her spirits have remained high, and she is a perfect pooch for anyone who wants a happy furry friend in the home.
Meet Muddy! UPDATE: Muddy has been adopted!
Meet Muddy! She is a 4-year-old mixed breed dog who weighs in at 67 pounds. She has a mix of black, white and tan fur and big ole’ puppy dog eyes. Muddy is playful and affectionate, romping around the play yard and then coming back for snuggles (and a few treats if she is really lucky). Muddy seems to get along with just about everyone, other dogs and kids included. Muddy came to the SPCA of Texas as an owner surrender out of Ellis County. She has suffered a bit of neglect in the past and is working on getting back into tip-top shape. She is housed at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to meet her.
Meet Murray! UPDATE: Murray has been adopted!
Meet Murray! This is one happy dog with a great disposition and cuteness factor in overload. Murray is a 9-and-a-half-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who is waiting to be discovered by just the right family. He’s kind of a big guy at 65 pounds, but not the biggest of his breed. He does come with that trademark Pyrenees coat, full of long, soft and cuddly fur. Murray seems to get along with just about everybody at the shelter, so bring the entire family down for a meet-and-greet. He gets along with other dogs too, but would probably prefer older, calmer dogs if he was brought in as a second pet. He is waiting at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas.
Meet Sandy!
Meet Sandy! She is a Domestic Shorthair mix who weighs 7 pounds and is covered in black and grey fur. She is only 2 years old, so she still has a lot of playfulness left in her. Sandy will capture your attention first with her big, beautiful yellow-green eyes. After that you will discover that Sandy only has three legs. She doesn’t let that slow her down too much and is still down to celebrate all the good things in life. Sandy would love to go to an experienced cat owner who knows how to get a cat to open up. She is currently housed at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to come down and hang out with her.
