In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, Newsradio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlight the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Our featured pet pal William was ADOPTED! Congratulations!

UPDATE: ADOPTED
William is a Domestic Shorthair mix who is just over 3 years of age. He has the proverbial fiery striped orange hair and weighs in at 13 pounds. William came into the care of the SPCA of Texas in May from the community cat program. However, it was discovered he is exceptionally affectionate with humans and he would actually love to be in a forever home. Due to his background, William can come off as extremely shy on the first meeting, but that can change rather quickly. Once he has warmed up to someone, he can become a rubbing, purring and soft head-butting machine (treats help this little process along nicely). William is an FIV-positive cat, which is a manageable condition. He would need to be the only cat, or paired with another FIV cat in a home.
Meet Peanut

Peanut is a tan-colored Mixed Breed dog of 54 pounds. He is 3-and-a-half years of age and available for adoption from the SPCA of Texas. Peanut is a “Shelter Sweetheart,” adored by the staff for his happy-go-lucky and downright goofy demeanor. He is an extremely intelligent dog however, treat motivated and easy to train. He walks on a Gentle Leader and knows simple commands like “sit” and “down.” He loves to play fetch and is a sight to behold when he finds a cool kiddie pool. Despite his best behavior, Peanut is a very big and very energetic dog, so it would be best for him to go to a home where all the children are at least 12 years old. He would love a big, secured backyard but could make an apartment work if the owners were good about walks and exercise.
Meet Wren
UPDATE: Wren has been adopted!

Wren is a 5-year-old Shepherd mix who weighs 56 pounds. She is covered in black fur with some tan highlights here and there, and she has big brown puppy dog eyes. Wren came to the SPCA of Texas as a stray from Ellis County. When she first arrived at the shelter, she was extremely shy and may still be a little timid around new people when meeting them for the first time. However, she came out of her shell and now goes for walks in the yards quite happily. She may still get a little nervous when taken into new environments for the first time. Treats help a lot in this area and gets her tail wagging quickly. Wren would love to find a calm, quiet home where all the kiddos are at least 5 years old. A secured backyard would be a big added bonus.
Meet Chance

If by chance a Hound is in order, Chance is your guy. He is a young dog at 4 years of age, and he weighs in at 64 pounds. He is an energetic Hound at that, and loves to engage in serious zoomies around the play yard. He is a sucker for tasty treats and will do his best happy dance to get them. Chance has done extremely well playing with other dogs at the shelter so he may be a great choice for a second dog. Bring any potential furry siblings to the shelter to meet him in advance. Simply due to his size and energy level, it is advisable that any children in the home be at least 12 years of age or older. Bring the entire family down to the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center to meet him, and there is a good chance he will be more than thrilled to meet them.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
