Five weeks after the Southwest Airlines scheduling nightmare between Christmas and New Year's, the company has a new technology boss.

The move is not a new transition, as Southwest says this was planned all along as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Kathleen Merrill decided to retire in December.

New Senior VP and CIO, Lauren Woods has been named as the new tech boss. She has been with the company for 13 years and CEO Bob Jordan says she has been part of some important technology initiatives for the Dallas-based airline.
