The Texas Workforce Commission says the number of people working in the state reached a record high in April. The labor force increased 62,184 and reached a total of 14,960,308.

The Texas unemployment rate was 3.7%, down from 4.2% in March.

For those who are unemployed, the Texas Workforce Commission is working to connect them with jobs.

"We Hire Vets" connects people leaving the armed forces with potential employers. The program recognizes businesses where veterans make up at least ten percent of the workforce.

"Veterans are loyal, committed, dedicated and some of the best workforce one could possibly get," says Texas Workforce Commissioner Aaron Demerson. "Once they recognize the experience they have and tie that to the work that's being offered, it's a win-win on both sides."

"We Hire Ability" recognizes companies where people with disabilities make up at least ten percent of the workforce.

"They're who we refer to as the true problem solvers of the world," Demerson says. "You hire a person there, they're going to be committed to you, they're going to be loyal, they're going to be wanting to make a difference."

For employers, Texas Workforce Solutions has a vocational rehabilitation team that can work with businesses to make accommodations for people.

"Working with that vocational rehab counselor allows an employer to figure out what those accommodations are, and if we can meet those needs, we're going to do just that," Demerson says.
