A Bedford city councilwoman stepped out of line - and now, she's stepped down from the council.

Place 1 Councilwoman Cindy Almendarez resigned just before Tuesday night's meeting after she had directed police to an unauthorized car club gathering at Pennington Field earlier this month.

The event drew numerous noise complaints from people living nearby.

Under Bedford's voter-approved city charter, elected officials may only deal with the city manager and not anyone who reports to the city manager, directly or indirectly - that includes police officers.

Therefore, Almendarez overstepped her boundaries by directing police to Pennington Field.

The City Council will discuss as its May 10th meeting how it plans to fill the Place 1 vacancy.
