Dallas Police say a child was shot and killed at an apartment complex in East Oak Cliff Sunday.
They say police were called to the complex on Southern Oaks Boulevard, about a half mile west of I-45 and Illinois Avenue, about 2 p.m. Sunday.
Police say two girls had gotten into a fight; both were younger than 18. They say one of the girls pulled a gun and shot at the other.
Police say the girl shooting missed and hit an 11-year-old boy who was not involved. They say the boy died at the hospital.
"It appears to be just a beef between two female juveniles that led to a deadly outcome," says Dallas Police Sgt. Warren Mitchell.
Mitchell says the girl who fired ran to a nearby apartment complex. She was arrested there. Because all three people involved were under 18, police are not confirming the kids' names.
Monday, the ages of the victim and the girl who fired the weapon have been made public. Police have said the girl who pulled the gun was only 14 years old. She's currently being held at Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center.
"Just understand everyone involved are juveniles, and this was just a horrible incident," Mitchell says.
Police say they are still investigating and have not said whom the gun may have belonged to.
