The city of Dallas will be activating its Emergency Operating Center starting at noon on Wednesday and will run it through at least Friday morning. The city will also be opening an emergency shelter at Fair Park for those in need, which city leaders believe can hold over 1,000 people.

"We do not anticipate any large-scale citywide power outages, that we saw last February," said Rocky Vaz, head of Dallas' emergency management team. "But we have contingency planning and are prepared to deal with that if that does happen."

But it's last year's statewide failures that he admits have given him a bit of PTSD, but says the city is better prepared this time around.

He says public works will begin checking on the bridges and overpasses starting tomorrow night and will begin treatment at midnight.

Meanwhile, the city of Fort Worth is also activating its Emergency Operations Center, consolidating city leaders in one location to make decisions quickly when the weather becomes dangerous.

Mike Drivdahl with the city's emergency management office says the city has actually been preparing for this for a while.

Mary Gugliuzza with Fort Worth Water says the best way you can report water outages and main breaks is to do so on the My Fort Worth app.

Road crews will be out throughout the storm looking for ice on bridges and will sand those bridges if necessary.
