The manhunt is on in North Texas as a gunman remains on the run after shooting a Clay County deputy last night.

Officials say the deputy was wearing body armor and Clay County Sheriff Jeff Lyde confirms his deputy will be fine.

About 7:00 p.m. the deputy pulled over a white Cadillac four-door. As soon as he stepped to the window, he was shot by the driver who immediately sped off north-bound on Highway 287 near Jolly, about ten miles east of Wichita Falls.

As the shooter took off, the deputy opened fire and based on dash cam video, they believe he hit the car several times so they're looking for a Cadillac with a number of bullet holes in the back.

The deputy had already called in the car's license plate number but that will be of little use because it turned out the plate had been stolen off another vehicle.
