The Dallas County Health and Human Services building has been placed on lockdown following reports of gunshots, according to KRLD's media partner NBC 5.

Police are at the scene investigating after a health department employee told NBC 5 that gunshots were heard from inside the building.

It is unclear whether or not gunshots were fired, and no injuries have been reported.

A Dallas County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman told NBC 5 that DPD has conducted a search and a secondary search will take place this afternoon.

She said the person who alerted authorities reported hearing five to eight 'loud banging' noises, adding that it could have been the sound of nearby construction.

It has not yet been confirmed that the incident was a false alarm, but the spokeswoman says she's glad that the reporting witness made the call.

This incident comes just three months after a gunman opened fire at the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office leaving one man dead before turning the gun on himself.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information is released.
