Dallas County will stop giving the COVID-19 vaccine at Fair Park July 17. Judge Clay Jenkins says 494,000 doses of the vaccine have been given at the clinic, and pop-up sites will continue.
"The summer celebration is on now that the last of the area schools have now finished the school year. In order to have our very best summer and to have a summer of freedom, more people need to get vaccinated as soon as possible," Jenkins wrote in a statement.
But Jenkins says demand for the vaccine has dropped. Through Monday, he says 56.68% of Dallas County residents have received at least one shot.
"The President set a goal to have seventy percent of eligible people with at least one shot by July4th and it does not appear that our country, state, or local area will reach this goal," he says.
The Department of State Health Services says about 47% of Texans had received one dose of the vaccine through Monday. Forty percent are fully vaccinated.
While the hub at Fair Park will close in July, other organizations are planning clinics over the next week.
