Demonstrators were out in force last night pushing for mandatory masks in schools in the Fort Worth ISD. These demonstrations come a week after school started.

According to CBS11, demonstrators were chanting "protect our kids" and "no masks, no school." This comes just days after Fort Worth ISD opted to join a lawsuit against Governor Greg Abbott's ban on mask mandates.

"I hate masks," said Trustee Anne Darr when discussing the lawsuit. "But the thing I hate more is sick children. As a parent, why would I ignore the pleas of our medical community to wear masks. It is my duty to support a mask mandate."

This sentiment was echoed by fellow trustee Roxanne Martinez who said: "I am appalled that the law is not protecting our children."

Fort Worth ISD reported that more than a thousand combined students and staff were absent the first week, either due to positive cases of COVID-19, or quarantining after exposure.
