A driver is now at Parkland Hospital with serious burns from a Wednesday evening crash in Fort Worth.

Police got the 9-1-1 calls just before 7:30 p.m. saying there was a crash and a car fire on the I-35W service road near I-20.

Investigators determined the driver of the car was heading south, and for unknown reasons he veered out of control and slammed into one of the flyover ramp support pillars, exploding in flames on impact.

The driver was trapped in the mangled, flaming wreckage and had severe burns when he was extricated.

Police say he was first rushed to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth where a Care-Flite helicopter picked him for transportation to Parkland Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
