A long legal battle in Flower Mound over gas well inspection fees comes to an amicable end.

Oil and gas exploration and production company EagleRidge Operating LLC had been challenging Flower Mound's annual inspection fees and drilling ordinance for three years.

As part of the settlement, Flower Mound has agreed to waive 60% of EagleRidge's past-due annual fees, in exchange for EagleRidge plugging and permanently closing 26 out of its 35 wells there.

Flower Mound will not assess the gas well fees against the 26 that EagleRidge will close over the next 12 months, and EagleRidge will not challenge the town's fee structure in the future.

Flower Mound Mayor Derek France is pleased with the settlement, which he says would not have been achieved through separate litigation or negotiations.

"The lawsuit was only about the amount of our inspection fees, but it led to the closure of the majority of gas wells in our community," Mayor France said.
