ERCOT announces new plan for reliability and accountability of the Texas power grid

Five months after the Texas power grid almost totally collapsed leading to the deaths of more than 200 people, the power grid operator ERCOT has a new plan.

When the grid failed during February's massive killing freeze, all fingers were pointed at ERCOT. The Texas Legislature and the Governor demanded radical improvements.

Yesterday, ERCOT delivered its latest report aimed at making the power supply more reliable.

It's a 60-point road map that includes provisions for on-site power plant spot checks, for testing large industrial customers who are paid to reduce their power use during an emergency, and in light of recent high-profile ransomware attacks, conducting regular reviews of cyber security plans and defenses to ensure continued electric reliability.

It may be a start but many experts suggest the plan is just a beginning point.
