
ERCOT has just issued a "conservation appeal" to ease the strain on the Texas power grid.
Officials with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas are asking everyone to cut back on electric usage from 3-10 p.m. Thursday, if it is safe to do so.
They say they're making the move because of the extreme temperatures, continued near-record demand, and forecasted low wind-power generation.
They say tight grid conditions are expected to continue from this afternoon into the overnight hours.
North Texas is under an Excessive Heat Warning through 9 p.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth says they made the call because of dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 108 and heat index values up to 112.
