The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) says their electric generation fleet and electric transmission companies are ready for winter, after a series of winterization efforts, according to a press release by the company.

This comes less than a year after power failed during Winter Storm Uri, resulting in the deaths of more than 150 people. Subsequently, the Texas Legislature increased maximum penalties for violating weatherization rules to $1,000,000 per day per violation.
ERCOT is responsible for balancing electric supply and demand on the electric grid that serves more than 26 million Texans. More than 300 generation resources were inspected and some generators exceeded the Public Utility Commission's winterization requirements, according to ERCOT.
ERCOT has submitted its preliminary inspection report to the PUC and will submit its final report to on January 18, 2022.
