ERCOT: Texas set another power use record Thursday

Another day, another record. But ERCOT says there's plenty of power to go around.

We just set a record for Texas electricity use Wednesday and we did it again Thursday.

Ever since the power blacked out during the winter cold snap of 2021, most of us have kept a wary eye out for signs of power failures. But so far, so good.

Yesterday, Texans used 81,406 Megawatts to power our air conditioning to face triple digit highs and Heat Index readings. That's 55 Megawatts more than Wednesday's record.

And with 80 percent of Texas under either Heat Advisories or Excessive Heat Warnings today, ERCOT thinks we could top that again.

For a little perspective, a single Megawatt is enough to run about a thousand homes on a typical day. But with these temperatures it's only good for 200.
