The excessive heat stifling North Texas could affect train travel, and agencies around the area are keep an eye on the rails.
It's happened before. The A-Train, which runs between Denton and Carrollton, had to slow down about 10-years ago when it was so hot the tracks warped.
So far that hasn't happened, but both the Denton County Transit Authority (DCTA) and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) have employees out watching the tracks for any possible signs of warping.
Pamela Burns of DCTA says the tracks have tolerances built in.
"There is always going to be a little bit of give-and-take because it is metal, and metal contracts and expands with heat and cold, but it doesnt have an impact on operations until we reach these excessive limits" said Burns.
DART says it is watching the heavy rail tracks used by the Trinity Express and if it needs to it can slow the trains down. It may affect the schedule but it will keep the trains moving.
