DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- The family of a Deep Ellum ice cream vendor is now suing ERCOT and Oncor over his death during the February power outages.
Leobardo Torres Sanchez's family in Mexico grew increasingly frantic in the days after the power went out and temperatures dropped below zero in Dallas.
They didn't hear from him for eleven days and were finally able to get ahold of a family friend who found Torres Sanchez dead under a pile of blankets in his rented Old East Dallas room.
He was seated next to two electric space heaters which did him no good once the power went out. Torres-Sanchez was well-liked and well-known for selling ice cream, cotton candy and caramel apples from his cart in South Dallas and Deep Ellum.
The million dollar lawsuit filed in Dallas County claims his death was directly related to failures by ERCOT and Oncor.
