Even though he no longer has a job with the City, Fort Worth's former aviation director has been cleared of criminal charges in connection with allegedly misusing city money.
Citing court records, the Star-Telegram reports the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office has dropped a criminal charge of abuse of official capacity against former aviation director William Welstead.
Welstead was fired in September 2020 after an internal investigation showed that he had misappropriated $43,000 in city funds by using a city-issued credit card to pay for damages to a city-owned vehicle in a hit-and-run crash.
He was also suspected of using airport property for a private aerospace company.
Had Welstead been tried and convicted, he could have faced ten years in prison.
