The Fort Worth Safe crime reduction initiative is a month and a half old, and it's already paying dividends.
"We're dealing with 380 arrests, and we have 139 guns seized," says Sgt. Amy Heise. "That would be from April 2nd until today."
Sgt. Heise says one of the key factors behind these numbers is the fact that there are dedicated units on the streets looking for these kinds of crimes.
"Our officers are out there working every day to make an impact in our community," Heise says, "and I think they're doing an outstanding job."
But Heise says police can't do it without the cooperation of the community.
"If you see something, say something," Heise says. "We have ways for you to report crimes to us anonymously if you want to visit us on our website and report tips. But really, we need you to help us (and) let us know where the crime is occurring."
Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes unveiled the Fort Worth Safe initiative on April 4th, just after the plan had been implemented.
Noakes says the goal is to reduce crime in Fort Worth by 10% within 12 months.
