A call about gunfire in a neighborhood in Hurst led to a stand-off Tuesday morning that ended with police shooting the suspect. Police were called about 2 a.m. for a welfare check and report of shots fired at a house in the 600 block of Willow Street, near Pipeline and Hurstview.
Assistant Police Chief Billy Keadle says someone in the house fired several shots at officers as they responded. Police called for the North East Tarrant County Area SWAT Team, which includes officers from Hurst, Bedford, Euless, and Grapevine.
Police were urging people to avoid the area. They closed Hurstview and several side streets during the stand-off.
One woman who lives about a block away says her dog woke up, and she went outside when she heard police cars. She says the sound of gunfire during the stand-off woke her up again later.

"The bang shook my windows in my bedroom and woke me up. I decided not to go look and went back to bed," she said. "I heard at least two, but I'd been up multiple times through the night and decided to go back to sleep."
Keadle says the person in the house "continued to fire dozens of rounds" as SWAT arrived and tried to negotiate with the person. He says SWAT then used tear gas, entered the house, and tried to resume negotiations.
"The suspect continued firing rounds and refused to surrender," Keadle wrote in a statement.
He says the person went out a side door and fired at officers. Keadle says officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
No officers, neighbors or anyone who might have been inside the house were hurt. Texas Rangers are leading the investigation. Tuesday afternoon, they had not released the person's name.
