Krum High School teacher Candy Lovelace's students, friends and colleagues are calling her a hero for saving a student from choking at school.

The Krum school district has released a security video showing Lovelace employing the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge a plastic water bottle top from a student's throat.

The student jumped up in class and ran into the hallway, clearly in distress.

Lovelace immediately emerges from her classroom and wraps her arms around the student's body from behind and repeatedly jerks her hands into the girl's mid-section to supply internal pressure from the lungs to force the bottle top out.

The frightened but very grateful student embraces Lovelace for a long minute as she regains her breath.

Krum school Superintendent Jason Cochran says Mrs. Lovelace's instant action was "truly heroic."
