Charges have now been filed against a man Dallas Police say caused the apartment explosion at Highland Hills.

The explosion rocked the South Oak Cliff apartments on September 29, completely destroying one building.

Police say it was 28-year-old Phillip Dankins who shot into an apartment and severed a gas line the night before, leading to the blast.

No one was living there at the time, which police say is why the leak wasn't detected earlier.

Dankins was arrested in Mesquite on October 2, and faces seven deadly conduct charges as well as a federal weapons charge. When he was arrested, a gun was found in his possession. A bullet from the blast site matched the gun Dankins had on him.

250 people were displaced following the explosion. Three firefighters are still recovering from injuries.
