Heading into the holiday shopping season, McKinney police are warning about a tactic thieves are using in parking lots.

For example, on November 6th, an elderly man was distracted by a man and a woman asking for directions while standing at the back of his vehicle. That is when a thief entered his vehicle and stole several credit cards.

In another case, on November 11, police say a woman was loading items in her SUV at a Costco. A man came up and distracted her by saying something was wrong with the back of the vehicle. At the same time, another man gets into the SUV and steals her wallet.

In a statement from McKinney PD, investigators say "as more and more people head out to shop for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, we ask that you please be mindful of your surroundings at all times."
