Dallas (1080 KRLD) - The new Dallas violent crime reduction plan is working according to Police.
The plan was rolled out four weeks ago to combat the high numbers of murders and assaults in the city.
Monday, major Paul Junger told the council, overall crime is down 3% and violent crime is down 5% from last year.
"Aggravated assault, non-family violence is down 8 victims in May versus April and 36 victims from last year. Murders are down 2 victims in May versus April and 8 victims compared to last year," Junger said.
Chief Eddie Garcia says the department is seeing the fruits of their labor.
"This is not going to turn overnight. But because of the hard work of the men and women in the department, we are seeing a trend," he says.
There were 15 murders in the month of May.
