A year after a woman was killed in Garland and her son was severely hurt, the driver who caused the crash has been sentenced to life in prison.
Officials say Bobby Lee Murphy was convicted of murder in the death of Karla Rico. Her 10-year-old son was left in a vegetative state following the accident.
Investigators said Murphy was fleeing police when he ran a red light and drove into a wrong lane, causing the head-on crash that killed Rico and severely injured her son.
