One dead, six injured in Deep Ellum shooting

Dallas Police are continuing their investigation into a multiple shooting this morning that killed one and injured another five.

The shooting took place in Deep Ellum at N. Malcolm X Blvd and Main St at approximately 12:42 this morning.

Police had been patrolling the intersection at the time, and according to NBCDFW the officers then saw a gun being pointed by 18-year-old Lathaniel Pearson who was ordered to drop the weapon. After dropping the firearm Pearson then ran from officers. He was caught and arrested shortly afterward.

Others had also been shooting in the vicinity at the same time as Pearson. Their roles in this incident have not been specified.

Of the six people who were shot, 18-year-old Kenneth Walker later died at hospital. A 19-year-old was also taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The four other victims, all women between 15-30 years old, were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One person has been arrested.

What prompted the shooting is still under investigation. Pearson was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest.
