A Mansfield family is crying tears of joy after reuniting with its beloved pet cockatiel.
"I kept telling my daughter: Don't lose faith," said Amanda Greeley.
She said the family had some construction done on the house on
Saturday, and the bird (named Skittles), flew out an open door. The family immediately started a desperate search for their pet.
"We walked miles and miles, just calling and whistling. People thought we were weird. We started putting up flyers," Greeley said, adding that it was starting to feel hopeless. "Last night was really hard. With the storms and stuff that had come through..."
But, as luck would have it, Skittles was spotted sitting on someone's rooftop in Arlington. Fourteen miles away. His rescuers connected with Greeley on Facebook and now Skittles is home, safe and sound.
Greeley says the reunion wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the North Texas community, and the family is incredibly grateful. Especially her daughter, who has a special connection to Skittles and is overjoyed to have him home.
