Months after receiving a $5 million gift for a new football stadium, Texas Wesleyan University is about to begin construction.

Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker joined the Texas Wesleyan community for the groundbreaking of Karen Cramer Stadium. Cramer is the trustee who gave the school the sizable donation; and as a result, the 5,000-seat stadium will bear her name.

University President Fred Slabach says the stadium will be built in three phases.

"Phase is the practice field and that will be an artificial turf field and that will be the field for the stadium which will be built around it," Slabach said.

Phase two will be an NCAA-certified track, and phase three will be the stadium itself - bleachers, concession stands, the press box, and the field house. The field and track are slated to be completed this fall.
