Dallas (1080 KRLD) - Organizers say between two and three thousand people attended a rally in Downtown Dallas Sunday in support of Palestinians. The group, Dallas Palestine Coalition, organized the event.
Demonstrators started at Belo Garden, and police shut down streets for the group to move through downtown.
"We want to make it clear our voices are going to be continued to be heard until the siege is lifted and the occupation is ended in the West Bank, and until we have peace and justice for the Palestinian people," says organizer Noor Wadi.
She says the demonstration aimed to draw attention from passersby who may not know hundreds of people have died in recent violence between Israelis and Palestinians. Wadi says they also wanted to bring attention to the number of Palestinians who live in North Texas.
"We're hoping they see the number of people who came out in support and think, 'I should be looking into this,'" Wadi says.
Others said they wanted members of Congress from Texas to recognize how many Palestinians live in the state.
"A few voices, it's a start. It's better than zero," one man said.
A pro-Palestinian demonstration was also held outside the Texas Capitol Sunday.
Tuesday evening, a pro-Israel rally is scheduled at General Worth Square in Downtown Fort Worth.
The group, Dallas Jewish Conservatives, held a rally in Far North Dallas last week.
