Ice, snow lead to delays and cancellations at DFW Airport

DFW Airport had to stop all arriving and departing flights more than an hour Thursday morning as a result of ice and snow. The ground stop gave the airport a chance to treat runways.

"DFW confirms our runways are not operational while being treated for snow and ice. We anticipate reopening the first runway within the next hour," the airport tweeted at 8:25 a.m. Thursday.

Some passengers arriving from other cities say their flight landed but then their connecting flight was canceled.

"At first it was confusing and terrifying at the same time because I thought, 'Okay, now what am I going to have to do?'" said one man arriving from Houston whose connecting flight to Columbia, Missouri was canceled.

"We were inside the plane already this morning," his wife said of when they found out the flight to Missouri was canceled.

A father and his adult son flying from San Antonio to Pittsburgh had to spend Wednesday night at a hotel when their connecting flight was canceled.

"Compared to Pittsburgh, this snow meant nothing," the dad said.

His son credits American Airlines and DFW for working to reschedule them and helping them book a hotel.

"It's scary because now what? Where do we go from here, and how do we get to our destination?" he said.

DFW Airport encourages travelers to keep checking with their airlines through the day Thursday.

"Due to ongoing weather conditions, we anticipate intermediate stoppages throughout the day to treat for snow and ice. Customers should contact their airlines for all flight updates," the airport tweeted.
