The Salvation Army is opening cooling stations in five counties across north Texas to help people stay safe.
The high temperatures and the heat index have promped the Salvation Army to open locations in Dallas, Collin, Denton, Tarrant and Ellis Counties to give people an opportunity to get into the air conditioning, and to pick up a box fan and water.
Cooling stations will be opened when the forecast calls for the actual temperature to be above 100 degrees, or the heat index to be more than 105 for more than two days in a row.
There will be multiple locations in Dallas County - including community centers in Garland, Irving, Oak Cliff and Pleasant Grove.
