It's Day 2 of the second capital murder trial of convicted serial killer Billly Chemirmir.

As KRLD reporter L.P Phillips explains it, prosecutors are explaining to jurors in Dallas County how it is Billy tracked the victim, Mary Brooks.

Billy Chemirmir has already been sentenced to life in prison for one woman's death.

Mary Brooks was killed in January of 2018 and her case has come up before, in a trial that ended in a hung jury and a retrial. Prosecutors used her murder as a way to illustrate Chemirmir's pattern for targeting then smothering older women.

When Brooks' body was discovered, investigators initially thought she died from natural causes.

"One of the things we found was that she had no jewelry on her at the time of them taking her and that was very odd, she always had jewelry, especially her wedding ring, so that was strange," Brooks' grandson David Cuddihee said. "And yes the next morning, more and more things we discovered were missing."

The State says Chemirmir followed her home from a Walmart, then smothered her, taking her jewelry. The break for police came several months later, when another intended victim, Mary Bartel, survived. She testified by deposition about the attack.

"Number 1, I should not have opened the door. Number 2, my life was in grave danger," said Bartel.

In the afternoon of Day 2, the trial moved to the day Chemirmir was arrested. Plano police say they were told Chemirmir was a suspect in at least one murder and a second attack. Detective Bill Knight was part of a team that put Chemirmir’s apartment complex under surveillance. He saw Chemirmir drive into the parking lot and park at a dumpster.

"And at some point he looked at me and I was like 'okay, this is Mr Chemirmir, this is the guy that we're looking for," said Knight during his testimony.

The evidence is expected to show that relatives realized that it was not natural death when Brooks' possessions were missing. Chemirmir is already serving life without parole.
