FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The man who Fort Worth Police arrested in Euless Monday night in connection with three dismembered bodies found in a dumpster last week says he was performing a biblical sacrifice on them.

Jason Alan Thornburg, 41, told detectives that he killed a total of five people, including three whose dismembered remains were found in a burning Dumpster on Bonnie Dr. in Fort Worth last Wednesday.

Thornburg told detectives that he lured his victims, including David Lueras, 42, to the Mid City Inn in Euless.

There, he killed two of his victims -- Lueras and a woman -- by slitting their throats with a knife.

Thornburg says he tried killing another woman in the same way, but he ended up strangling her instead.

Police had investigated Thornburg for a similar murder in Fort Worth earlier this year but did not have probable cause to arrest him.

The affidavit says Thornburg also confessed to killing a woman in Arizona in a similar manner.

Surveillance video from the Dumpster site helped investigators zero in on Thornburg as their suspect.

"Video surveillance evidence helped us to identify a possible suspect vehicle," Homicide Sgt. Joe Loughman said during a Tuesday afternoon news conference. "We believe that vehicle to be a 2005 to 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee."

The challenge then became narrowing that list down to one.

"We requested a list of all Jeep Grand Cherokees 2005 to 2010 in Dallas and Tarrant County, (and) that list was over 7000 vehicles," says Sgt. Loughman. "While reviewing the list, a familiar name to our office came up -- a gentleman named Jason Thornburg."

Detectives traced the SUV to the Mid City Inn in Euless, and they caught up with him there Monday night.

"Mr. Thornburg participated in a consensual interview with my detectives," says Loughman, "during which time Mr. Thornburg admitted his involvement in the death of the three individuals that were recovered in the dumpster on Bonnie Dr."

Thornburg is charged with capital murder of multiple persons and is in the Fort Worth Jail on a $1 million bond.
