Some words of optimism, and caution, from public health officials in Tarrant County.
Addressing the Commissioners Court Tuesday morning, Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja says COVID-19 activity in the county has slowed to a crawl.
"(The) positivity rate is very low, I think it's 2% and some change," Taneja. "Case rate is like 29 per 100,000."
In contrast, Taneja says the positivity rate for the flu is now at 19% - nearly ten times that of COVID.
Furthermore, Taneja says the number of daily new cases is declining.

"The numbers that are posted are a couple hundred a day," Taneja said. "But when you look at all the data, the new cases are really about 100 a day in that range, and it's starting to decline even further."
But Taneja cautions that we might not be done with the deadly virus just yet.
"The UK again went on alert because of all the stuff that's happening," Taneja warned. "China's got Omicron 2, the stealth variant, surge happening. They locked down a big city called Shenzen - that's where a lot of our supplies come from. Several other countries overseas are seeing similar outbreaks - some in Europe, some in the Middle East."
And as a result, Taneja says if we're not careful, we could be in for yet another spike in COVID activity.
"Just to be a little bit cautious, because this thing could come back around," Taneja warned. "We're keeping our fingers crossed that we're done with it, but who knows."
