A teenager is sentenced to 20 years in prison for shooting an off-duty Dallas police officer in the Fort Worth Stockyards.

Reports say Dallas Police Officer Jose Garcia was with his family at a store in the Fort Worth Stockyards in August of 2020 when two teen suspects tried to rob him. One of them opened fire and Garcia was hit and injured.

Both suspects were arrested in the case. They were each 17-years-old at the time.

A jury in Tarrant County has now convicted Joseph Nevarez of aggravated robbery. He's now 19-years-old. Prosecutors say he's the one who pulled the trigger. He has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
