That office had previously granted the border security operation nearly $75 million. The additional funds will be used for law enforcement, jail operations and court administration.

"This additional funding will strengthen our response to the border crisis and ensure our law enforcement and local partners have the resources they need to keep our communities safe in the federal government's absence," Gov. Abbott said. His announcement comes just days after visiting the border to mark the construction of new segments of a wall between Texas and Mexico being built with state funds.

The new funding for Operation Lone Star will pay for equipment and supplies, including patrol vehicles and surveillance equipment. It will also cover overtime costs for law enforcement personnel, jail staffers, prosecutors and defense attorneys. The funding grant includes money for travel expenses to help non-border counties that have sent law enforcement officers to the border.
