Tribute paid to late Arlington ISD soccer coach

On Saturday, family and friends gathered to pay tribute to Joey Rodriguez, a popular soccer coach for Arlington's Sam Houston High School who died last weekend following a battle with COVID-19.

Our partners at NBC 5 spoke with some of his family and friends who described Rodriguez as a selfless man.

"His impact on kids, his leadership, and what he poured into not only Sam Houston High School's soccer team, the staff, but his family, his wife, his kids," one person said. "He put his heart out there for everybody and was a servant for everybody."

He had been vaccinated from COVID-19, but he also suffered from an auto-immune disorder that could turn a simple cold into pneumonia.​
