A car was driving by a construction site on Watson Branch Road, just off FM 157, when the scaffolding suddenly collapsed and landed on top of the car.

"Two of the people were able to get themselves unstuck or get out of the vehicle," said Jeff Smith, Mansfield assistant fire chief. "But the driver of the vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle."

The driver was taken by CareFlite to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth, in an unknown condition.

"We did transport a second patient by ground ambulance to Medical City of Arlington," Smith said. "The third patient refused any treatment or transport."

It's unclear how the scaffolding collapsed on Thursday.

"Nobody was on the scaffolding," Smith said. "All the injuries were in the people who just happened to be driving by."
