Ukraine consul general of Houston: Civilians killed by Russian troops exceeds military losses

The Ukraine Consul General of Houston is painting a stark picture of the humanitarian crisis enveloping his country.

Speaking to the American Jewish Committee in Dallas and the World Affairs Council of DFW, Consul General Vitalii Tarasiuk says the Russian bombardment of residential areas throughout Ukraine has cost scores of innocent lives in the country.

"The number of civilians killed by Russian troops exceeds military losses," Tarasiuk said during the nearly hour-long webinar. "The worst situation remains in the besieged city of Mariupol, in which 2,187 civilians lost their lives.

Children are not being spared the wrath of the Russian aggression.

"90 children were killed by Russian invaders," Tarasiuk said, "(and) more than 100 wounded."

Tarasiuk says Russian troops are targeting anything and everything in their path.

"369 educational institutions, 111 hospitals and more than 1,500 residential buildings were damaged or destroyed," Tarasiuk said, who added that Russian troops are also targeting airports, gas stations, bridges, and water systems throughout the country.
