Irving police say a man who brandished a gun before getting killed in a hospital on Wednesday night was not there for mental health reasons.

Due to privacy law, Irving police haven't said why the man was checked in to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center, but they have confirmed that it wasn't there for his mental health. Officer Robert Reeves says a nurse went to check on the 34-year-old around 8 p.m. and noticed he had a gun and was acting strangely.

Officer Reeves says the man fired at least once at officers and they fired back, killing him. None of the officers were hurt and neither were any patients in surrounding rooms.
