In Denton, a veteran-owned sandwich shop put out of business by the pandemic is open once again thanks to a generous “angel” donor.

The Patriot Sandwich Company opened a month before COVID-19 started shutting things down in Texas. Owner David Jordan says it broke his heart to close.
Then, a stranger heard about the shop’s mission to help homeless veterans.
"This shop was created to help support a local charity for homeless veterans because seven years ago I was a homeless veteran and almost committed suicide," Jordan said. "Who better to try and help fight for these guys' rights and give them a voice than someone whos actually been there and knows what it's like."
The stranger donated $45,000 - just enough to get the Patriot Sandwich Company back up and running. It reopened this week on a skeleton budget, with a staff consisting mainly of veteran volunteers.
Jorden says the donor, who is choosing to remain anonymous, gets free sandwiches for life.
