Dallas man found guilty in murder of 13-year-old

A jury has found a Dallas man guilty of murder in the shooting death of a teenager who got caught in gunfire two years ago.

It was never a question that 13-year-old Malik Tyler was an innocent bystander, killed when two groups of men began shooting outside a Pleasant Grove convenience store. And it also wasn't in question that one of the gunmen was 24-year-old Datrail Clayton. What was before the jury was whether the bullet that killed Tyler was fired by Clayton or someone else.

The defense admitted that Clayton was involved in the gunfight but that the state didn't prove Clayton fired the fatal shot.

After deliberating for around two hours, Judge Lela Mays announced that the jury had reached a guilty verdict.

The sentencing hearing will begin Monday. The penalty range is five years to life.
