DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Police have arrested a 21-year-old for the murder of an innocent teen Tuesday night in the Pleasant Grove area of Southeast Dallas.
Dallas Police say Malik Tyler was walking outside the store and was hit by a stray bullet in a shooting.
Tyler's family says he was a student at Young Men's Leadership Academy at Florence. Family and friends gathered for a vigil Wednesday evening.
"Someone took my son from me," his mother, Tina, said. "This is not an easy process for me. I just hope and pray the community and everybody watching this can do something about this store."
"My little brother was only 13. It doesn't make much sense," Tyler's brother, Keon Sanders, said.
Friends say people do not feel safe around the store near Bruton Road and St. Augustine Drive.
"There have been so many people going around, shooting in broad daylight constantly around here," one friend said.
Police have arrested Datrail Clayton, 21, for murder. Thursday morning, he was still listed in custody in the Dallas County jail on $500,000 bond.
Clayton has a criminal history that includes a two year prison sentence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
